Tuesday 16th August Bristol Avon

I was just thinking today that I could manage a few hours fishing. I spent lots of time looking and only cast out a four times.

The river was still very low and clear and I had this feeling that I would struggle. I fished every swim which contained barbel but only caught chub. It’s not always a case of going out and filling your boots. I could fish many swims and catch barbel and chub, but it’s the larger fish that I’m after.

That’s why I think I should kick myself up the backside and say why am I not fishing the H.Avon etc. I guess that the reason is that there are some good size barbel around this area and I would like to catch some of these in the winter so swim knowledge and barbel movement is of paramount importance.

Anyhow I fished a few swims and caught some chub rather than the intended barbel. It was great fun visually spotting the fish feeding.

I ended with 3 chub and the largest going 4lbs which I was pleased about. They are not the beauties of the Stour or the H.Avon but still a good chub.

Chub of 4lbs not big but a good fish.

I did some guiding the next day and caught some great fish and a couple of p.b.’s for the guest.

Read on over the next few days.
