Chew lake after the big pike 25thOct

This was the first time this year that I’ve been able to fish Chew. My mate Andy Cowley had fished it the day before and caught some good pike and his boat partner had a couple of 20lbers and came second in the match.

So after a full cooked breakfast it was 8.45 as we boarded our boat. Most of the other boats, (to be fair all the boats) powered out to where the 42 lber was caught the week before. What a surprised………all too soon we were arriving in the area too.

I was fishing two dead baits and Andy was fishing one dead and lure fishing on another rod.

Nothing much happened for the first 2 hours so we moved up the bank to another spot. Another boat followed and anchored up 75 m away. Soon they were landing a nice 25lb pike. We stayed for a while long and nothing came along.

Phone calls were coming through of a couple of 30’s and pb’s too so it was looking good.

Andy kept telling me that yesterday had been very good, so I’m going to call him from now on ANDY YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN HERE YESTERDAY COWLEY.

Andy you should have been here yesterday

He had a couple of jack pike and a trout and I managed one trout.

The wind was troublesome with a large swell. The two anchors sometimes moved so strong were the gusts.

As the day drew to an end we got back to the bank to find that a host of 20’s were caught together with 3 x 30’s with the largest being 39lbs.

So Chew has not been kind to me.

Where as ANDY YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN HERE YESTERDAY COWLEY can look forward to a few more days.
