Back to a nice camping holiday. John catches some great Tench though.
Here I was again with Graham fishing Horseshoe again. It was to be his first time on there this year. John had been up there for a few days before and had caught a few tench but nothing too large. In fact he seemed to be in the nursery area and had a few from 1-2lbs.
I arrived early in the morning to be greeted by John. We had a good chat whilst I decided where to fish.
So after a while seeing a few tench roll I headed in that direction. OK I wasn’t confident. Feeling around in the swim I found a clear spot on which to fish. After putting out a little feed John told me that the guy was leaving where I wanted to fish. So I moved and soon found more clear patches. Bait was the normal red maggots with both plastic and real ones being used.
Graham joined me later in the day and fished in the double swim. Soon we were both fishing and hoping for our strings to be pulled.
You could tell the fishing was slow as I normally start to photo the wild life.
Here is a photo of the spent willow seed pods that collect on the lakes surface. The carp love to mooch around in this for food. John is a great guy and is a very good intelligent angler who always searches for a better way of improving his presentation of rigs etc. I think it come from his match fishing back ground.
He was fishing opposite us and had a great take and landed a lovely tench of 8lbs 9oz which he didn’t photo. What a pity.
Wow it wasn’t very easy for us on our bank. As the day drifted by I took more photo’s.
Here is one of the buzzers I use. I’ve had them for 6 years and they have never let me down. They can be immersed in the lake and still work now that’s some going. They are small enough to use on the river too. Nash AATs perfect.
Well time kept going and at about 6pm John had a take and landed a beautiful tench of 8lbs 13oz. This time I was off to take a photo for him.
It was then time for me to go off and get pie and chips for the 3 of us.
All 3 of us changed over to carp tactics for the evening. That was it.
I rose at 4.30am and started to look around the lake. It was so misty that I couldn’t make out a single tree on the far bank. I had a feel around in another swim and found some clear spots so I thought I might move. However John was leaving at 11am. So Graham and I had some bacon butties and then slowly packed up ready to move to John’s swim.
The rest of the day was still in camping mode and other than a small roach hanging itself on my line we had a complete blank.
More wild life photo’s kept me going.
