October 27th excited at Linch Hill

Well the last time I ventured out was at the beginning of the week, but it’s not all about fishing. Wednesday I met with Dan Williams a young man I fished with a couple of years ago for tench, to look over the Linch Hill Willow lake. Inspried by reports of roach to almost 4lbs albeit 10 years ago or more we decided to take a look and see whether new fish are coming along. We met at 10am in the car park and swiftly got talking to a carp fisher who was just pulling off Willow lake. He confirmed that there were fewer fish than previous years but several 3lb plus roach had already come out to carp fishermen this season.

Soon we were walking around the lake. I couldn’t believe how small it was when considering that I had been fishing Bradley’s and Horseshoe lakes. There were a couple of carp anglers fishing and they kindly gave us a good lowdown on swims, roach populations. The day was warm and sunny with a swiftish wind from the S/W.

It looks a great lake with crystal clear water and when I mean clear, it’s better than tap water. I was thinking this is it I’ve just got to fish it. Dan and I then walked around Stone Acres lake. A good size gravel pit with a few very large bream which are chased by the dedicated anglers. My view is life is too short to chase these just yet. There are also some very large carp, in fact large species of all gravel pit fish.

Dan and I decided that we would give a good try this winter if we could get the tickets. The cost is £275 to be able to fish from November to 14th March. Fingers crossed.
