Carp fishing on the top

With many people furloughed due to the Covid 19 virus it would appear that many people are using this time off to go fishing. The lakes have been rammed with anglers enjoying the fantastic weather that spring has bought. The Met Office is saying 696 hours of bright sunshine for this spring which is a record and exceeds the previous record of 594.3 hours. Not only was it clear sky’s and hot temperatures there was no significant rainfall in our region of the south west. I would think that the chub and barbel would have got the spawning out of the way this year on the rivers fairly early. Maybe perhaps maybe this year will be a good spawning and fry survival rate due to the lack of rain and high temps.

So I’ve decided not to fish for tench this year. Andy (you should have been here yesterday) Cowley has been fishing for some cat fish down in Hampshire. He too has problems trying to get into swims on one of the lakes due to so many anglers.

The decision was an easy one for me as for the next steps to angling. The carp had spawned on a small club lake close to me so they would be feeding. The lake is small with the largest carp going just under 30lbs however there were plenty of other doubles and pretty fish to go at.

So I booked my day on the 2nd June and turned up at the lake fairly late in the morning 10am. It was much busier than normal and 8 cars were in the car park compared to the normal 3 or 4. I walked to my swim which was in a shady area out of the bright sunshine and the 27c temperatures. I decided to complete a little videoing of carp taking the biscuits that were being fed. So here is a short video of the events of the day.

So a very enjoyable days filming and fishing. To be fair I’m really desperate to return to the rivers particularly the H.Avon and D. Stour for some chub and barbel fishing.

22 lbs 5oz carp

Oop’s should be smiling holding a carp. Can’t be a normal carp angler then.
