20th January Dorset Stour Throop

Believe it not the river levels on the Dorset Stour had been rising since the downpour of Monday. It had continued to rise until 6am on Thursday morning. I spoke to Brian Wilson one of the Throop bailiffs on the phone and asked how things had been. Gruelling was his answer, few fish caught of any note and the river brown! However the temperature had been dropping from 47f down to 41f because of the frosts of the last two nights. I’m beginning to think my fishing is jinks at the moment. I’m having the worst run of luck for the last 3 months. Hey ho some of the best footballers going through lean spells, this is mine. What is it they say “form is temporary but class is permanent” I’m not saying anything here.

Well I arrived at Throop at 3.30pm to find the river dropping quickly and colour clearing. I settled into a swim below school bridge in a slight crease. I was using a boilie with past around it to try and induce a bite.

Brian Wilson

Brian came down for a chat. Brian is a top bailiff and helps out all the anglers he meets. I’ve seen him put his rods away and help new fishermen to the Throop fishery find good swims. His efforts on the Throop Davis tackle weekly report keeps you updated with catches on the fishery. Go to the tackle shop web site and sign up.

He didn’t come to fish he just bought his chair. We ended up having a good laugh with him getting his phone out and going through all the jokes his Son sends him.

In no time at all 6pm came with darkness and it was time to packup.

Another blank, but both of us knew there was little chance of success!
