August fishing with more large chub

The weather continued to be hot throughout August with some very hot conditions. The barbel wouldn’t come out to feed very often. You could locate the same fish in the same swim. Although it was unfair to target the same fish. I had found a great shoal of chub which enabled me to obtain some lovely video of them feeding at very close range.

Here is the video

So you can see it’s fascinating watching them feed and something I learned was the crunching sound as they crushing them on their throat teeth.

Something I was very busy with over the last couple of months was guiding. Most of the guiding was completed on the Dorset Stour with a couple of days on the Hampshire Avon. Most people caught some large 5 and 6lb chub plus most had pb chub. This just illustrates that the Dorset Stour has some great chub fishing at the moment. Summer fishing has been fantastic this year but now as I write this the weather has turned in late September and the rivers will be getting some much needed rain. I’ve not fished or guided on the river Wye much this year. I think it’s been just the once. I’ve watched over the years the river slowly dying before my eyes. The summer flows have been low as apposed to the noughties when the floods had the river in great from. 10 years is not long in terms of a rivers life but I’ve watched it being strangled. Nobody seems to be doing anything to help or identify the real issues. Although many have their views and voice these the lifeless river limps on.

So I’ve not managed to fish as often as I liked the stamp of chub and guiding people to catch these put a big smile on my face plus the chaps. Here is a round up of Augusts results.

July’s fishing adventures

July was an exciting month for me there were plenty of insects around and so my wildlife pond provided some wonderful video work. The fishing was truly magnificent with some big chub and barbel caught. The summer was extremely hot at times 32c plus. The river Wye has been so disappointing this year with low […]

Final session Tench fishing this year with 9lb tench and carp to 33lbs

Much as the previous post my recollection of exact details other then weights is lost in the past. I have had to rely on the video taken at the time. The only thing I can say is that it pays not to be complacent about swim knowledge and assumptions. As I fished an area that […]

Session number two and 3 for tench

Again the weather was still cold and I arrived on a Sunday evening to see what had been out. The fishery had been quiet for the weekend with little being caught. A few carp anglers had been catching a few tench on boilies during the night time. I was going to be using worms again. […]

Spring is here but not warm weather

The spring should bring warmer weather however not this. I normally start my tench fishing the very first week of April however this year the spring weather meant frost for most of the month. They said it was the most number of frost in April ever recorded certainly the coolest. I think our area was […]

End of March and lockdown is relaxed a little

Well it’s been a long winter and I’ve not fished since the first week of December. The local venues within 5 miles of me have been busy with walker dog walkers and anglers. So I have reluctantly stayed at home as the government insisted. Having said that I’ve seen plenty of anglers travelling long distances […]

I’m still alive

Well things have been very difficult on the fishing front. We have had a second lockdown but fishing was allowed even night fishing. We were supposed to be not travelling too far. However how far can we travel? There is no stipulation. WE WERE IN A TIER SYSTEM WITH EACH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA ASIGNED A […]

Another Covid 19 lockdown in November and 9 chub

Well it’s not been great news as a national lockdown has been served again. Us fishermen are allowed to still go fishing but shouldn’t travel too far. So I started off by going to the Salisbury area for a spot of dace fishing. I was using bread flake under a float. It was a difficult […]
