1st session on the river
Well how quickly time goes. I’ve just returned from a 2 week holiday on the lovely island of Fuerteventura. Lucky me, well I should say we for the better half enjoyed it too. For a change I had decided to have a two week break knowing that the tench would be spawning (which they haven’t) the river would be in great condition with the chub and barbel having spawned (which they have’nt). Plus coming home with Spanish man flu has had me thinking that it’s all conspiring against me. But the holiday has got me all fired up again.
My first session is mostly a bit of a social where you meet old friends from the previous years campaign. I had got up at 4am and was fishing by 5am. The river was up and coloured and was right in between chub and barbel conditions. My first session is normally a bit of a social. I met Kevin from Lacock way and we had a good chat. Then another Kevin from Swindon came along for another chat.
Then my mate Andy from Bradford-on Avon and Chew valley boat partner came along with two frozen pollack from a conger trip out of Plymouth last week. I do like fresh fish. We had a good chat mostly about what our plans were for the coming season. I think he will join me fishing the H.Avon for the large chub this year. I had been on to him for such a long time about coming down that way.
Stuart Morgan the famous maker of the Barbel Up Close cd’s was just up the bank with some friends but I didn’t get chance to say Hi.
Well it was a very windy day with light drizzle. More like winter than summer. This is Andy touch ledgering in the gusting wind.
I fed pellets into a few swims and caught 6 small chub of no significant size. But no blanks.
I’m still thinking of fishing for the tench before they spawn, so the rivers down south may need to wait a while.
