26th October Bristol Avon and more chub
I could only fish for the afternoon today and an hour or two into darkness. I was going to a stretch where there are a good few chub and some large barbel.
I was going to use two rods for a change. One baited with pellet and the other with a boilie that I’ve used over the last couple of years.
The swim I was fishing had a large snag at the end of a nice glide. My aim was to pull the chub and barbel away from the snag so that I stood a good chance of landing them. In the event this worked a treat. I used my trusted hemp and dropper to do the trick. Have a look at this video.
By the end of the session I caught 8 chub from this one swim with two over 4lbs but none of the larger fish put in an appearance. No barbel either this session. Great sport but not what I was after.
I caught 7 on boilie and 1 on pellet. This is comparable to my last visit to the river where I caught 6 chub on boilie and none on pellet.
It looked as though the river had risen 3 ft recently. It wasn’t the rain but someone opening a gate further upstream and allowing a huge surge of water to come down. What was that about I wonder?
The little rain we have had hasn’t had much of an effect on the river.
