Back to business Horseshoe Lake 9th to 11th May
After enjoying the previous weekend fishing with the Kid’s, it was time to get back to the pursuit of the large tench in Horseshoe. I got home at noon on Monday and was ready by 3pm for close to 48hrs fishing on Horseshoe. I arrived at 4pm and spoke to Miles and David in the office to see what had been caught. Not alot by all accounts.
The swim I normally fish in summer bay was taken so I moved along the bank to another and found a clear area just past the canadian pond weed bed that runs about 25yds out. I put out about 1 pint of hemp and cast the method feeder with the normal caster, molasses, hemp and ground down vitalin about 4 times in the first hour to get a good bed of bait down.
I didn’t see any sign of tench rolling or fizzing. However at 8.55pm the rod was away and I had to play a tench through much weed. It was a good 10 seconds again before I could feel the tench on the end. It put up a good scrap and led me around a little. There was a willow to my left and I was worried that it might just find the branches sanctuary. Soon though it was in the net. On the scales she went 8lbs 11oz and then I noticed that I thought it was the same fish I caught last week. The carper next to me took the photo’s for me.
Oh dear I had not changed the camera from manual focus to auto. I had been taking some photo’s of mayfly during my previous visit and failed to change it back. If it was going to be a pb or a huge fish I would check, but didn’t this time. Let this be a lesson for me and others. I did laugh it off with the carp guy who was a really nice chap. Thanks to him for taking the photo.
I thought here we go. The night drifted by without any bites. I was using rubber casters on a hair rig.
I woke at 4.15am to a clear sky but no frost. I cast out every hour but nothing came along. This continued all day and into the evening. No carp were caught either. Summer bay was empty.
The only highlight of the day was the sunset in the evening.
The night shift passed without a bleep. One tench rolled over the baited area at 9am however nothing came of it. I packed up at 11am in the rain……oh bugger.
