First 2 weeks of July 2022
Well due to illness plus the really hot weather I didn’t have too many angling adventures. Those that I did complete were pretty successful and I think there was only one blank.
There were plenty of chub and a couple of double figure barbel caught in what is turning out to be a very difficult opening few weeks as temperatures rose to over 40c in the UK for the very first time. Little rain has fallen in the southern part of the UK and the river Wye and Usk have stopped fishing a few times due to the high temperatures.
The Hampshire Avon chub are still really thin after the successful spawning this year. It’s going to take them some time to put the weight back on.
I’ve not seen the southern rivers so low before, and once the weed starts to die back then they will be on the bare bones. At present there is plenty of weed in the river which fills the volume of water. Some places the weed is such that it has increased the height of the river by 18 inches. Its a false impression though.
The water companies are issuing hosepipe bans whilst taking more water then ever from the Test and Itchen. They have just applied to take more. It’s utter madness!!
Whilst there is no appreciable rain fall the water authorities are still pumping out raw sewage into our rivers. It’s utter madness!!!
Here we are paying £100 billion for a railway system (HS2) to get people to offices they don’t use quicker by 20 minutes. Now that is madness!!
The money would be better spent on building more reservoirs or pumping water from the lake district down south. Any how it’s 33c outside and too hot for fishing and much else. We have 4 days of 35c plus coming which isn’t going to help matters.
Anyhow enjoy the fishing blog on my adventures early July 2022
