My tench fishing season for 2018

I’ve been so far behind with my blogs people have thought I had died or was ill. Pleased to say neither. Fit and healthy and taking Mrs P on holiday does take a time.

Need to say here and now that the season was a dog for me. I had been fishing in Kent for some large tench which grow to 13lbs plus. The weather was very unkind to me throughout April and into the first week of May. The cold spring and continued cold weather had everyone on their back feet. I was fishing a couple of days right through April and into May. Cold rain and not great fishing.

I’m not saying too much about these weeks other than the season was over within about 4 weeks. Rather than the Tench feeding from early April to Mid may and slowly building up weight they seemed to be leaving it late. The season seemed to be compressed into a 4 week period. Cold weather then followed by a heat way had them peak pretty quickly.

My luck was with me as I did catch a few with the largest going 10lbs 4oz. There was a cock up with the weighing and a carp fisherman wanting to get back to work. It could have been 10lbs 10oz however I was unsure whether it was weighed correctly ie not zeroing the weigh sling. Never mind a 10lb tench is always a welcome sight.

As I had said there were few highlights other than the long hold ups on the M25 and M4.

Plus the odd dog doing his business in your swim.

Hoping that things improved and they did.

10lbs 4oz

Little did I know what a fan bloody tas tic start I would have on the H Avon this year.
