Steve, Graeme and Dad Stan go barbel fishing!

Please read the previous three blogs.

Well they say time waits for no man and it seemed ages ago that Steve had phoned me to arrange a barbel session for his bother Graeme and their Dad Stan.

What I hadn’t relised but Graeme and Stan had traveled from the lake district via Manchester to pick up Steve for one days fishing on the beautiful river Wye.

I had got to the river by 6am ready to set up camp. The weather was supposed to be overcast and pretty much lived up to that. Steve had said that they would be there for about 8.30am and they were.

Stan was the first to get a barbel the very first barbel they had ever seen. Not a large one but at least a barbel.

They told me they had been fly fishing the previous day at Chatsworth house on the Derwent and caught a few grayling and trout. I hoped they would be happy with the day’s sport. Then when they said about leaving at 6pm my heart sank further as the fish normally come onto the feed at this time.

The day went really well and they all caught a couple of barbel each, so what a result!

Steve and Graeme each caught one of 5lbs 14 oz each however Stan (Dad ) had the largest of the day at 7lbs 2oz.

The bait was once again the West Country barbel slick sense feeder mix and the large pellet as bait. Loverley!

We had some great banter between father and son’s plus an even better one with the 300 canoe’s that came down the river.

Soon it was time to go I think and hope they had a great time. They will be back for sure.

They lost a few too where the braid run across the rocks. Not good news. However inevitable at times.

Happy Days.
